Something is bothering me and if I don't write it down, it will become a hindrance.

first- the redo of the US Presidential swearing in. There was a wording glitch on the original day. So it was repeated in the White House to make sure the wording was correct. When it was repeated the President stated he didn't have his Bible, but it was OK only the words mattered. It may just be me, but if I was sworn in at my house for something and needed a Bible one would be readily available. How much time would it have taken to get one? Please don't say "too busy".

I don't carry a Bible everywhere I go- maybe I should. Maybe we should. I also watched the news one night. The bail out plan- oh my. What is God's plan for bail out?

I have ideas on what He might say. It is a good thing for everyone to search the scriptures on their own for.

The other thing bothering me is the abortion clinic funding has been turned back on. In a federal monetary crisis its OK to fund abortions? I think the cries for help to God from the unborn will now be even louder, probably more so than the prayers for this country.

I'm not Obama bashing- it is my sincere prayer that he will walk with God, and not fall victim to influences that are not of God. He is our leader and we should pray for him and his administration. God help them and God help the United States.

OK- now my notes from the last Bible study

Ch 41 Rise of Cyrus

Cyrus is referred to in this chapter, and by name in later Chapters (44:28). The fact that he is referred to by name 150 years before his birth (which is many generations) shows that God is out there in the future. Instead of guessing about the future I think we should ask Him that knows.

God aroused him, and ordained his success. God protected the Persians as they overthrew the Babylonians and re-established Israel. In present day the Persians or Iranians are out to annihilate the jews and will try to do so in the first act of the tribulation period.

God is timeless, He was first, and will be last. There will not be a time without God.

As the Persians grow in strength the Babylonians pull together - they come together (without God -in their own strength) as they start to see the Persian threat. We as a nation are coming together and excited about the new President but is God in it? We should pray He will be and that we will do His will. In this coming together they are building idols- focused on what they can produce, and being supportive of each other. Agreeing together but excluding God- as it seems to me.

Israel has been in exile and are afraid- God's chosen people - allowed by Him to be conquered out of disobedience, and now they feel threatened once again. God reassures them and He reassures us that He is ever present even in times that seem uncertain. God will fight our battles for us, His chosen- we need to rely on Him (through submitting) and let Him through not interfering in His plan. If we will do that we will be a witness for Him for His glory, we are to be an example to those that aren't His and help harvest them into His family. Those that aren't with His program will be the ones that seem foolish. Ever not done anything afraid of looking foolish? If its God - you won't be foolish, and we should not fear.

God also reassures the needy, those who know their condition and admit to it, He will take care of. Those that show pride and feel self reliant He won't.

An example, God made Eden into a desert, and He can make deserts lush by acts of His power. Then there is global warming - we are taking credit for climate change by our activities, which is something we used to attribute to God, and were formally exclusively attributed to God. Does that in some way make us feel godlike?

If we want to be god, he says bring your case - tell Him what will happen. He knows what will happen, we can only speculate. We don't know and we need to admit we don't know. Theorizing what will happen after an asteroid strike is not predicting the future, saying the odds get better for one every year is not predicting the future. God alone knows. It will happen the way He ordained and the way He says. There is a long history of prophecy that has come true, and yet we often entertain just a little doubt that it will not be as He has said in His other prophecies. Only He knows - everyone else is false and their speculations are worthless.

Ch 42

Now the promise of Messiah also in Matthew. He will be soft spoken, He won't raise His voice. This fits nicely with Proverbs 15:1 - a gentle word turns away wrath. He won't be disheartened and crushed, and yet we get discouraged about situations and without much perserverance.

God created the earth we live on, gave us our breath and our spirit. He sent His son as a covenant to free us. He will not give His glory to another so Jesus had to be God Himself.

Verse 9 most interesting - past prophecies have come to pass, now He declares new things, and He will proclaim them before they spring forth. Are we listening? Are we asking? Are we asking the right source? -I believe God Himself in our prayers.

We should praise God, reference to Arabia - the sons of Ishmael. Ishmael was man's answer- which was not needed, God had it covered and He is in control. Sela- a rock city in Edom - Edom not the chosen people but still should praise Him.

God has restrained Himself, and kept silent. But like a pregnant women - birth will happen- its a matter of time. We know God will make Himself known, He will lead. The "blind" spiritually will be given a clear choice, trust God or trust self.

His servant in vs 18 is Israel - not the Messiah. They have seen many things- evidence of God, but have rejected it. Still He loves them, still He calls them. He gave them the Lae to show them their condition, but they didn't heed it God let them have the desires of their heart and it led to exile. God let it happen, He gave them up - its what they wanted. They made a choice not to follow Him. For some even when swallowed up by hardship won't get their attention.

Ch 43

God created Israel and through all their trials He protects them and demonstrates He is God. Trials will happen, the Bible does not anywhere say that people will not face trials. This applies to believers and non-believers. The trials of a non-believer are brought about by not following the ways in which God has outlined. Sooner or later it catches up with them either in this life or the next. The believer WILL face trials, sometimes it is said that those trials are to teach them some point, or point out some inrepentant sin. However the better answer is that it shows God's sovereignty, that He is bigger than the problems we face, and He is in control. In the book of Job - Job argues that he has lived a life and doesn't deserve the trials he is facing. His friends point to the trials as evidence that Job is not who he thinks he is and that the problems indicate he is a sinner.

Going back to protection of God for believers through trials. Protect does not mean necessarily prevent exile if disobedient, He is after submission to His authority and Praise for who He is. God protects them, and allows them to be scattered. He will gather them in His time. Their behavior will actually add to His glory. That He protects a nation that doesn't deserve it. We might rush to say that is foolish, but Israel just like all His followers start out ignorant and it takes time to learn. He's looking at the hearts and not the actions.

God alone has prophesied what has happened, and is the only trustworthy source of what will happen. Others cannot say that. We should acknowledge that fact and our need for God. We certainly don't deserve God's grace, and yet He gives it to us. The entire nation of Israel is like that. His majesty requires respecting- we can't wrap our minds around how great he is- we're only capable of glimpses.

Isaiah notes from 1/14/2009

Ch 37

Report to king Hezekiah, it distressed him he repented (humbled himself) and went before the Lord, and sent for Isaiah messengers repentant. An earnest prayer through Isaiah about the current situation. God's answer -words were against Him, reassurance of protection and a prophecy. God stirred up another enemy against Assyria just as Isaiah said, but the Rabshekah didn't think it was serious or from God so he restated his position that Jerusalem would fall- this in opposition to what the Lord said. This time he said God couldn't protect them, and was in fact deceiving them he basically said the Assyrian will was greater than God's.

What things are we so confident in that we neglect God's rightful place and ignore His leadings. Those things are our idols.

Just like us the king of Assyria was so confident, enough so to put it in writing. God was already working in the fact that with overwelming odds, they still did not attack Jerusalem. Similarly God has protected Israel 60 years in the same fashion. These people may claim to hate the jews but they fear God enough that they aren't willing to die. There is enough doubt (for now) that they don't act.

Its interesting how people say they love Jesus but don't act, and there are some seemingly opposed to God's plan that don't act. Selfishness cuts both ways.

Hezekiah spread it out before the Lord and prayed, Isaiah took him God's answer. God is in control and we are grass- Assyrian forces will no longer be a threat, and a sign given. He will defend His city for his sake.

The Assyrians became proud of their God given success, and pride elevated them in their minds to a godlike status. They became arrogant. The Assyrians led people into captivity by hooks or bits (to humiliate them), so the reference that God would do the same to them is interesting. A time line is also given for God to act.

If we humble ourselves and pray to God with our concerns He will at least sometimes give a timeline of His actions. As in this case. Another is Soloman building the temple. There are others. It seems to be that if people will see it (in this life) a timeline is given. Abraham did become the father of nations, but not in his lifetime. The generation that saw Israel reborn would not die until they see Jesus- a real timeline.

Angel of the Lord came and killed most of the army, the king of Assyria returned home and was killed worshipping in his temple.

Ch 38 happened before ch 36 and 37 Hezekiah healed

Hezekiah told put affairs in order he would die- God tells most people when their end (in this life is near) - look for that as you read in old testament- particularly the faithful to Him. Due to his faithfulness he asked for favor- and was very earnest. He prayed and was given 15 more years, and promised the Lord would defend the city. A sign was also given- shadow backing up- another real time sign.

Do we ask God for things and not walk before Him in truth, with our whole heart, doing what God shows us to be good? Are there certain aspects of our lives we want to control, and yet how futile is our control if it isn't what God has for us.

2 Chron 33 Manasseh was 12 when he took the throne of his father Hezekiah. Hezekiah's life was extended 15 years, so Manasseh was born after the healing, they are both in the lineage of Jesus (Matthew).

Hezekiah's writing after his illness. Felt he would be deprived of life -in the middle. He will not see the Lord acting in this life- do we see Him acting in ours? This life is like a tent reference, Peter refers to it as such in Hebrews- its in other places as well. This life is temporary and short term in the grand scheme of things - in heaven is a mansion. How does a mansion compare to a tent?

He acknowledges God is in control and death is the end- hope is lost for the soul (Those in pit cannot have hope for faithfulness, must submit to God in this life for it to go well. He acknowledges God who forgave his sins, kept him from depression. So God instructs Isaiah what must be done to heal him. God instructs doctors (those who listen to Him) on how to make patients well.

Ch 39 Hezekiah shows treasure.

Hezekiah healed. Babylonian empire starting to grow in influence, but the Assyrians were still in power. Word of Hezekiahs healing gets to Babylon, they thought it was remarkable and sent envoys to see him with presents. The Assyrians probably knew what was going on. Hezekiah shows treasures to Babylonians, which word of probably got to the Assyrians, and been another reason for them to attack Jerusalem.

The exile of Judah is predicted (which means it has to be taken- Isaiah had a vision of it at one point earlier), but not in Hezekiah's lifetime.

Hezekiah interprets it as a positive- but he is only thinking of himself, and peace in his time. Not long term peace for his progeny. Something we as a nation have done is spend our childrens futures. Debt is spending ours and our kid's futures - economic crisis? Like Hezekiah we sometimes only concern ourselves with our needs and our immediate future.

Isaiah saw the Assyrians slowly strangle Jerusalem, and then God act on behalf of His city. Isaiah also saw that eventually Jerusalem would be taken. He sees it as accomplished (dead chicken) and now looks beyond the captivity to a glorious future. Babylon (the world's system) would eventually come against Jerusalem, public opinion in our days is certainly gaining more anti-semitic ground. Isaiah looks to the glorious future beyond captivity - some of which hasn't happened yet.

Ch 40 voices of comfort- after long affliction

Comfort for His people, voice calling make way,

earthquake world wide, then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all flesh will see it.

We can see God in spirit now, see Him moving in our lives, but one day it will be plain.

We are grass, we whither at the Lord's breath, but His word stands forever. End of world- terrifying thought- we are fragile (plagues, volcanoes, asteroids, nuclear war, global warming), but the Lord is in control. God is also timeless, where we are temporary.

Let Zion proclaim the good news -lift it up do not fear. Witness to Judah cities. Carry the gospel to the ends of the earth which would wrap around and back to Jerusalem- where it started.

Verse 12 the majesty of God- He alone is God and has no counsel. Yet for us there is proverbs 11:14 - success comes from many counselors. We are not God, and yet we sometimes act and maybe even think a little like we are. God has no equal. We work hard and create idols, and our idols make us feel like God. He created us as God, and when we create (our works) we are elevating ourselves in futility. God has no equal.

Heavens are like a tent- life is temporary. God is in control of the governments and the rulers.

God calls out the stars by name, a very large number (feels like infinity to us) yet all numbered.

God sees all the true injustices we suffer, along with those we inflict on others through our selfish actions.

Lord doesn't tire, those that wait upon Him (recognize their place, their helplessness, and submit to His timing) will mount up on Eagles wings.

Ch 32 the millenial reign of Messiah

A king will reign righteously, and princes will rule justly. It will be like a refuge (relief from the crisis). Currently people are blinded by deception, rushed into making decisions, talk to talk- wear people down. It will be like that no more. A fool will be not be considered noble- people's motives will be apparent. It will be very clear what motivates others and whether they truly are considering your best interests or theirs. Actually it is in everyone's best interest to be supportive rather than competitive.

Examples of current foolishness, speaking in error of the Lord, controlling people or trying to by keeping them hungry or thirsty, slandering each other (gossip).

Rather there will be noble plans, support, win win's

The day is coming- just before the millenial reign that will affect everyone first. The complacent or comfortable or rich will be affected. The harvest won't come in. Currently people are losing jobs, and they are being artificially supported, what happens when that ends? The prosperity will be over- thorns and briars. Cities abandoned - it will happen if hunger gets bad enough. It will eventually be about subsistence- growing enough food or taking it. Cling to God is the ONLY answer. Until the Spirit is poured out. Then justice and righteousness, and peace. People living in peaceful habitation and secure dwellings, and undisturbed resting places. The city will be laid low, blessed (a blessing- on some during this time) is he who sows besides waters, and let the ox and donkey run free ( not muzzled). God's plan involves sowing, not hoarding.

Ch 33 Just before battle

Assyria plundering the countryside of Judah, Isaiah confidently predicting their eventual overthrow and did for years. Assyria is the destroyer. That dealt treacherously with others (broke promises made but expected others to keep the ones made to them).

A cry to the Lord to be gracious to the remnant that honors Him (and He will be) vs 2-6 those that believe in the Lord will have strength, salvation (wealth of new souls?) , protection, spoils, justice, righteousness, stability, wisdom and knowledge of God. Fear of Lord is a treasure. He will give you what is necessary if you trust Him.

Now in contrast those that don't cry out to the Lord - weakness, sorrow, desertedness, ( Assyria made a treaty promising peace then broke it - sound familiar. That why treacherousness is stated), no regard for man (people are a commodity, dehumanized- easier to treat less than human), mourning withering and desert.

Now God will act, when men realize their answers, their schemes, their plans have no substance. They look good they sound good but they are chaff. Only fit for burning. The far away will hear, the near will see.

For the godless- who can endure? But for those that:
live God's way, speak truth, despise exploitation (don't take advantage of others), refuse bribes, reject violence, avoids evil amusements- this person will dwell in security and be provided for.

The King is visible, the threat removed, but meditation on terror that never comes. Our worst fears are seldom realized, and I think this is a special case where we will become so certain of bad things and terror. In looking at the Lord the threat will be gone. Keep our eyes on Jesus. Jerusalem (the alter) undisturbed. The place the Lord will be for us as judge, lawgiver and king, spoil will be much. This is likely a reference to Russia and Iran invasion

Ch 34 God's wrath

Edom (Edomites from Esau) once fertile, is now one of the most desolate places on earth a physical example of how God can change things (similar to ch 24). The last days of the trib period before Millenia.

The Lord is indignant against all nations and he will give their armies over to destruction.
the sky rolled up , Lord's sword will descend in judgement upon the people He has devoted to destruction. destruction and fire- smoke will go up forever (sounds like the lake of fire).

vs 16 all prophecy will be fulfilled in the day a person sees what was stated.

Ch 35 The day of the Church triumphant

Jesus' millenial reign, joy and rejoicing, the glory of the Lord will be visible, He will encourage the exhausted and strengthen the feeble. He will save. The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the lame will leap, the mute will speak. This is a continuation of what Jesus started while He was here the first time. The land will become fertile. A highway will be established - probably not literal- maybe it is - part of a journey from where we are at to where God wants us to be. There will be safety on that road. The redeemed will walk there coming with everlasting joy to Zion. It may be the road we will walk from heaven back to earth returning for the millenia.

Isaiah over half over - not so pleasant part- man refusing to submit to God but rather go his own way. God dealing with us in His time and in His way- what is truly best for us. Later will be the more pleasant parts. This life is the first "unpleasant part" unpleasantness due to us and our desires rather than God's plan. Later pleasant- submitted.

Ch 36 History- the overthrow of the Assyrian army

Recorded three times in the Bible II Kings 18 and 19, II Chronicles 32, and in Isaiah. The first 30 some chapters of Isaiah had God's repeated warnings against not following Him, a pleading and a waiting for people to turn to Him, and glimpses of the trib period and the millenial reign of Christ. He longed for a turning to Him, waited for it, and refused to let us completely have our own way.

II Kings Hezekiah - rid Judah of idols, there were none like Him before or after. He clung to the Lord- the Lord spared him from seeing destruction. He rebelled against the king of Assyria, the king of Assyria came up to him and Hezekiah paid him tribute. According to the notes Hezekiah quit paying tribute when Sargon was succeeded by his son Sennacherib. Sennacherib attacked, Hezekiah said he had erred and sent the tribute, but Sennacherib attacked anyway (hence the reference to treachery in chapter 33).

II Kings Hezekiah - rid Judah of idols, there were none like Him before or after. He clung to the Lord- the Lord spared him from seei
Large army sent Rabshekah - important leader with large overwhelming army. Hezekiah had made an alliance with Egypt but it was not going to be of any use (man's answer). God's answer? rely on Him? they misunderstood God and interpreted wrongly that some of Hezekiah's actions insulted God rather that were pleasing to Him. Ever jumped to a wrong conclusion based on another's actions?

Then taunting- pointing out weakness - few men. The worthless reliance on Egypt. Then said he had heard from God- He was sent by God to destroy Jerusalem- ever taken another's word they heard from God without checking it out on your own? Spoke in a language to try and demoralize people.

Shebna was over household replaced by Eliakim but still allowed to be there to see it (God's grace) - this was predicted way back in Ch 22. Isaiahs words proved true in this case, didn't he also say Assyrians wouldn't take the city?

Seige effects the unpleasantness of, then the King of Assyria's plea - a better option - thus he says - like he is god. He then reduced God to the same ranking as all the gods people knew about, and recounted their victories. The three were silent per Hezekiah's request.
